Jesus and the Children

Religious Education Packet 2017-2018

Welcome to the Religious Education Program at

Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church!

We are happy to support parents in their role as the primary spiritual and moral educators of their children.  We seek to give the children in our care the knowledge, experience, and skills necessary to become faithful and fruitful disciples of Jesus with the support of their parents or guardians.

Grade K4-through Grade 4 meet a 9:00 a.m. the school classrooms on every scheduled Sunday. The calendar is being finalized and will be available in August. Parents/guardians should wait with their children until their teachers arrive. Should class content be finished early, teachers will spend the time reviewing material previously covered or concentrate on prayers.  Dismissing students early can be disruptive to class. No student will be dismissed early unless the child’s teacher knows in advance.  Parents MUST come to the classroom to pick up their children after class. Students will not be able to leave the classroom without a parent or guardian.

Middle students will attend the EDGE Program for their catechesis every other Sunday night from 6:00PM-8:00PM. Dinner is served during this time.

Please remember classes for sacramental preparation are 2-year programs. Students in 1st or 7th grade in public schools will need to attend religious education classes this year, as well as next year, in order to receive First Holy Communion in 2nd grade or Confirmation at the beginning of 9th grade. It is the parent’s responsibility to inform the Director of Faith Formation in writing of any sacraments their child is in need of and to provide required sacramental documentation.  If you are a homeschooling family, please contact Katie Orbon regarding sacramental preparation.

The Diocese of Charleston has issued instruction requirements which include prayers that should be mastered by a certain age.  A prayer chart showing which prayers are being studied in each grade is below. Parents are asked to work on these prayers at home with their children.  Our class time is limited; please help your child learn to speak to God through prayer.

Students are expected to behave in a respectful Christian manner, both to adults and to their peers, at all times. Should behavior become a problem, parents will be contacted by the teacher and/or the Director of Faith Formation.

Excessive absences may prevent promotion and/or reception of a sacrament.  Four absences is the maximum accepted per year.  Advance notice of absences will be excused if the student completes assigned make up work from the teacher.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Katie Orbon, Director of Faith Formation, at the church office: 864-422-1648 ext. 209 or
